Ramsey Nasser boxed in a Clubs For Young People National Championship Final on Thursday 24th November and although his arm was not raised at the end of the fight he did the gym proud. Ramsey boxed Chris Ali from Repton ABC in the Class C Final under 57kg. The score was not a true reflection of how close and competitive the bout was. I am very pleased,happy and proud of what you have done in these championships Ramsey and so should you be. Your boxing is better then its ever bean and that shows in you reaching the National Finals. Stand tall and walk proud Ramsey.

Congratulations to Waleed Din on becoming the National Champion at 48kg in the Clubs For Young People Championship. Waleed boxed kane Smart from Downend ABC and after a steady first round Bruce stepped up his game to increase his lead in round two. The accuracy increased along with the power in round three and half way through the round Kane Smarts corner through in the towel to end the contest. Bruce you are boxing better and with more confidence each fight. There is so much more to come from you yet and i look forward to you showing more of what you are capable of doing. 1St Bout Of Season For Mijit And Tigga

Aseel Lahsoon and Mijit Najib had there first bout of the season on Saturday 19th November.

Although Tigga lost his first bout of the season he was in with a good boxer by the name of Cope from Gus Robinson School Of Boxing. After a slow bad first round Aseel made adjustments for round two and then again for the third round boxing a lot better as the fight progressed. This is his first loss and i am sure he will come back better and stronger after facing defeat.

Also Boxing on the night was Mijit Najib against Felix Riley from DoncasterPlant ABC an opponent who had previously beaten him on points. This time the result was different with Mijit using his skilled footwork and illusiveness to score with accurate counters. After the final bell rang for the end of the contest mijits hand was raised as the winner.

Uzair Najib made a good return to the ring after loosing in the senior novice championships with a impressive win over Paul Meeham from Phil Thomas School of boxing. The opponent was a more experienced good quality lad who had previously won the junior aba national title. The bout was a good competitive bout but the higher work rate and cleaner shots resulted in Barry's arm being raised as the winner at the end of the bout.

Razaq and Bruce Move On To Senior Novice Quarter Finals

Razaq Najib and Waleed Din both had impressive wins today in the Pre Quarter Finals of the Senior Novice Championships. Bruce competing in the Class A under 48kg category Boxed T.Josephs from Staford Town ABC. Straight from the word go the writing was on the wall as Bruce found his range and began landing solid shots to head and body. In round two the body shots landing on Josephs by the hands of Bruce took there toll forcing his opponent to bend over and the referee to call a end to the contest. Your class strength speed and accuracy were to much for him Bruce. Well Done.

Razaq Boxing at under 60kg in the Class B Championships boxed last years National Senior Novice Champion at 57kg from Clearys ABC Sean Greenfield. This was going to be a tough test for Razaq and boy did he raise to challenge. From the beginning of the fight Razaq went out with total focus and concentration landing with good clean shots. As a result he was ahead on points after round one. Rounds two and three saw Razaq keeping his lead on points with his best performance to date and by the fourth round Sean found the pace and the lead Razaq had built up to much to handle. The score ended up 28 Points to 20 in favour of Razaq. This is a very good win for you Razaq well done.

Congratulations to Waleed Din on his victory in the National Semi Finals of the Clubs For Young People Championships. Waleed boxed more experienced Dale Doody from Wednesbury abc in the class c under 48kg category on Sunday 13th November. Right from the start Waleed took charge by Dictating the pace and action ending the first round up with the score of 6 pts to 3. The pattern of round one continued on through rounds two, three and four with Bruce landing quality shots with both the front and back hand. With a score of 15 pts to 5 Bruce moves on to the national finals on Thursday 24th November. Bruce you are a pleasure to have and are progressing all the time. Well Done. Razaq Gets Yorkshire Title

Well done to Razaq Najib on becoming the Yorkshire Champion in the class b under 60kg senior novice championships on Friday 11th November. Razaq boxed John Bean from ST, Paul's abc for the Yorkshire Title at Ernie Oxers boxing gym. Right from the first bell Razaq started strong landing solid shots to both head and body. The second round started the same way round one did and after two standing eight counts John Beans coach made a good call by throwing in the towel to end the bout. Razaq moves on to the pre quarter finals on Sunday 20th . Congratulations to Ramsey Nasser on his yet another victory in the CYP Championships. Ramsey boxed B.Philips from Rotunda ABC in the national quarter finals of the Clubs For Young People Championships'class c under 57kg. After a close opening round Ramsey came back to the corner 3 Pt's down. Undeterred by the score Ramsey went out for the second round with more determination and focus that he continued to do for the remainder of the bout. When the result was announced the score was 34 Pt's to 14. Ramsey now boxers in the National Semi Finals against a lad from Northern Ireland.

I am really pleased for you Ramsey that you got the win and progress to the next round of the Championships. But the result for me is not important. Running a Amateur Boxing Gym is not as easy as some may think ,and at times it can be physically and mentally tiring especially when you have boxers competing in a championship tournament. the time that this sport demands from the coach is countless. But when you have boxers who dedicate themselves to their chosen sport and to you, its worth all the work and time that a coach puts in.

Today 9th January Uzair Najib and Waleed Din boxed in the National Novice Semi Final Championships. Although neither had their hand raised at the end of the bout i am so PROUD of the way both lads boxed and the way that they have prepared themselves for these championships.

your attitude and commitment is what makes it worth doing and i am so privileged to have you both in my gym. The joy and pride that both coach and boxer feels after a good performance is how a coach gets paid and today i got paid handsomely. So i would like to say thank you and well done lads.

On Thursday 9Th December Hakeem Nasser had his first amateur contest against another first timer from Hoyle Mill ABC Lewis Harthill. From the first bell Hakeem Boxed very well throwing plenty of shots when he got inside of his taller rangier opponent. After forcing the referee to give a standing eight count to Harthill in the 2nd round Hakeems arm was raised as the winner by unanimous points decision.

The night also saw Hakeems younger brother Raeid take part in his second contest against Ben Wainwright from Alferton ABC. This was a close bout but the cleaner more accurate shots thrown by Raeid gave him the edge to become the winner by unanimous points decision.

Waleed and Uzair move on to Semi Finals

Congratulations to Waleed Din and Uzair Najib on there progress to the National Senior Novice Semi Finals. Both lads boxed well in there quarter final bouts at Peterlee leisure centre at the weekend. Uzair boxed S.Golding from Gloves abc in his Class A under 57kg contest. Uzair went straight to work with a high work rate and pressure in the first round that he continued to do in round 2. The 3rd round saw more of the same that forced the referee to give Golding a standing eight count. At the end of the bout the score was 25 point to 10 in favour of Uzair.

Waleed Din boxed a former opponent from Moss Side Fire Station abc R.Bobat. The first time they met Waleed came out with his arm raised as he did in this Class A under 48kg contest. Both lads have improved since there first meeting but Waleed was first to the punch straight from the start. This was a good clean contest with neither Boxer giving much away but Waleeds skills kept him in front in the contest that ended with the score 9 points to 5 in favour of Waleed.

Congratulation's to Uzair Najib on his winning performance to claim the Yorkshire senior novice class A Tittle at under 57kg. The bout came a week after boxing Alex Sutton in a cracking Yorkshire Semi Final contest. Like there first meeting the bout was all action for three rounds that saw Barry gain his place in the Yorkshire final against another former opponent from Armthorpe ABC called R.Sykes. Barry started of very well from the opening round landing with clean right hands and left hooks that he continued to score with through out the bout. Sykes never stopped trying for the full three rounds and was always a danger but Barry had the edge on the night. You have trained hard for these Championships Barry and earned your place in the Quarter finals. I am very happy for you and proud of your achievement. Well done.

On Saturday 15th May ST,Paul's ABC staged a show with a select team of Yorkshire Boxers vs a team from Ireland. Loua Nasser had a late call and opportunity to box on this show against a lad who had 30 bouts to loua's 15. Although Loua's arm was not raised at the end of the bout i am very happy with Loua's performance. The progress and improvement loua showed during last nights bout is the most he has ever made. Although i thought Loua had done enough to win the contest the result is not important. Its the performance that counts and Loua performed. As a result of the performance both myself and Loua walked away with a smile on our faces. You have turned a corner your last two bouts Loua keep up the good work.

Well done to Loua Nasser ,Razaq Najib and Uzair Najib on last nights performances 30/04/10. All three lads boxed on the Newbury & Farnworth ABC Show against the hosting club boxers.
Loua boxed with determination and control against L.Steventon from the first bell. it gave me great pleasure to see the joy and total self satisfaction on louas face after the bout. I am so PROUD of you loua.
Next to box saw Razaq take on S.Raja in a difficult bout due to different styles. Razaq found it hard to get his shots of at times when the gap was closed because of the holding done by his opponent.But he listened to instruction in between rounds and had greater success. i am pleased to see Razaqs boxing ability get better with each bout. Well done Razaq.
The last of the three lads to box was Uzair against A.Khan. Another tricky bout with Khan being a awkward quite slippery opponent. But Uzair found those gaps in the first and second round to both head and body using good uppercuts to drive through his opponents tight guard. In the third round Uzair went full out with relentless pressure that forced the referee to give a standing eight count at the end of the third. Its good to see you trying things that we practice in the gym. Well done.
As a result of three good performances they where all rewarded with the bonus of having there arms raised at the end of the bout to be announced the winner.

Well done to Loua Nasser ,Ramsey Nasser and Razaq Najib on their winning performances when they boxed at st Paul's gym on Friday 11Th December. The show hosted by East Hull ABC saw one of East Hull Boxers Robert Smith against Loua. This was there second meeting that saw Loua gain a comfortable Pt's victory. Another East Hull Boxer went up against Ramsey Nasser in a three two minuet round contest that saw Ramsey as the comfortable winner. Last to box that night saw Razaq Najib in his second bout take on another tall opponent R.Stevenson from Armthorpe ABC. Razaq worked hard to gain the deserved unanimous Pt's win.

First Show Of Season

Thursday 1st October was our first outing of the season with three of our boxers boxing at the Royal Victoria Hotel in Sheffield on a show run by Hillsborough abc. 13 year old Loua Nasser had a change of opponent on the morning of the show and ended up boxing the far more experienced Jimmy Foster from Retford abc. The bout was so closely fought that at the end of the contest i thought it was too close to call. The result of the judges was that Loua was awarded the win by majority decision.
His older brother 14 year old Pharys Nasser was very unlucky not to have had his hand risen in a majority decision against Jimmy Egans abc boxer Carl Bumby. Pharys boxed with improvement since last season landing with strong back hands against Carl while using his good footwork to avoid any shots coming his way. Although the second round was more even i felt that in the third Pharys got back to his good work and deserved getting the win.
Our third and last boxer to box that night was 16 year old Waleed Din having his first Amateur contest against Moss Side Fire Station abc boxer Raees Bobat. Straight from the opening bell Waleed boxed with confidence and ring craft greater then that of a first timer. Using good footwork to avoid being pushed back onto the ropes Waleed countered with accurate straight back hands through out the contest to get his arm raised at the end of the bout.

All three boxed well and i was complemented on the competence on all three of them . Well done on good performances lads keep up the good hard work you do in the gym and i am sure you will all improve and progress

Gone But Not Forgotten

Commiserations and sympathy goes out to the Najib family after the sudden loss of Ishie who passed away recently. I myself new Ishie and trained with him four days a week at our gym. He will be missed but not forgotten. The turn out at his funeral was in the Hundreds which shows how respected and loved he was. The thoughts of all the coaches and boxers are with the family and when ever i think of Ishie i can remember the happy smiling genuine person that i found him to be. I am not a religious man but if there is a better place that the good go to after death' i know he will be there.

Once again we have come to the end of a boxing season. The season was not as busy as i hoped it would have bean but all the lads were ready to box at short notice due to the commitment and dedication. This season saw the gym get its first National Champion when Jordan Knowles won the Class B Novice Championships after a long lay of from the sport. This is a great achievement not only for Jordan but the gym as well. During the season we were able to have a few lads boxing on the same night but at different venues. As i went to one show the task of travelling to Newcastle fell on one of the other coaches,Shaun Hill. This was the first time he had to travel with boxers on his own to a show and corner them. I am very pleased to say that he did the job extremely well and i am very fortunate to have him at my gym so a big well done and thank you goes out to Shaun. The gym have a great set of lads who listen train hard and make it a joy to be doing what i am. A good coach brings the best out of a boxer and a great set of lads like mine bring the best out of a coach. I look foreword to the next season and the development of all the boxers.

After three rounds of competitive boxing Mijit was given the win by unanimous decision. Although this was Mijits first bout i am pleased to say that he boxed better than i thought he would have done. you performed very well Mijit and got the bonus of the win. Loua's unlucky defeat but still a winner

I would like to say well done to Loua Nasser' who boxed in the National Semi Final School Boy Championships today Saturday 21st February. I thought Loua was unlucky not to have his hand raised after his bout with the far more experienced' Tom Aitchison from Skelmersdale ABC. This was Loua's 4th fight compared to Aitchison's 23rd with only 5 defeats. One may have thought that the bout would have bean a one sided mismatch' but Loua showed why i kept him in the Championships' with a performance far greater than that of a four bout novice. At the end Loua lost a debatable decision with a score of 4 points to 3. Aitchison's coach complemented Loua on his performance and even a complete stranger walked up to Loua and said he thought that Loua won. You have done extremely well and done the gym me but mainly yourself proud. stand tall Loua' to achieve what you have achieved in only four bouts takes a winner.

Tonight Wednesday 29th January Pharys Nasser earned a place in the Yorkshire finals school boy Championships, class 3 under 52kg by beating Cleckeaton abc boxer Jack Pyrah by unanimous decision. Friday 23rd January saw Uzair Najib make his debut contest at the Marstons Stadium Hinckley,when he boxed Heart Of England ABC boxer John Harris. Uzair boxed well behind a good solid jab in the first round with both boxers being prepared to mix it up. After a close round 2 uzair dug deep and worked hard till the final bell rang to end a good debut performance. As a result Uzair got the bonus of having his arm raised to be declared the winner by Unanimous Decision.

A big congratulations goes out to Jordan Knowles who on Sunday 14th December became the national senior novice champion at under 75kg (middleweight) class b. By beating Hayes abc boxer Darrin McKenna with a score of 7 points to 2. Jordan becomes the first national champion to come out of Sheffield Lane Top ABC since it was first affiliated to the Amateur Boxing Association only four years ago. Jordan a kitchen fitter from chapeltown came back to the sport after a 16 month lay of due to work commitments, faced some tough opponents non more dangerous than big punching Curtis Valentine from Benny's ABC who he boxed and beat to win the quarter final stage. In the semi finals he than faced strong Hyltoncastle and Townend Farm ABC boxer Kevin Williams. Jordan showed his ability to adapt and change what he had to do by using good movement and sharp counters in order to reach the national finals when he boxed Darrin McKenna yet another strong but awkward boxer who at times rushed Jordan and through shots from every angle to try and penetrate Jordan's tight guard but at the end of the bout Jordan was announced as the national champion with a score of 7 points to 2. To achieve what he did took dedication commitment and sacrifice. the win is a big achievement not only for Jordan but for the gym also. Yet another good performance by Jordan on Sunday 7th December when he boxed in the national novice semi final Class B under 75kg against Hyltoncastle And Townend Farm ABC Boxer Kevin Williams. Jordan naw moves on to the National Finals on Sunday 14th December with a winning score of 7 points to 2. well done jordan you are a inspiration to all the lads in the gym.

Well done to Ryan Parkes on his performance on 7th November against South Normanton Boxer Jamie McGhee. Although Ryans arm was not raised at the end both lads got rewarded with a Trophy for the best bout of the night (And well deserved). Ryan to get a trophy for the bout of the night is an achievement on its own. Well done.

Well done to Faisil Farooq who progresses onto the Semi Finals of the Junior Novice Championships after his victory in the quarter finals over Merlin Youth ABC Boxer Farhan Aktar. Faisil won the bout on a count back decision with 4 out of 5 judges voting that Faisil had done more work in the bout to become the winner.
Well done Faisil once again your performance was a good one. you have worked hard for these championships and it shows in your performance. you are a joy to coach and I am lucky to have a well mannered disciplined boxer that you are in my gym. you do yourself the gym and me proud.

Well done and congratulations to Faisil Farooq on becoming the Yorkshire Champion. Faisil who boxed in the Junior Novice Championships on Saturday 18th October,came up against East Hull Boxer J.Windas. Faisil boxed very well through out the bout and won comprehensively with the score of 10 points to 1 to become the Junior Novice under 54kg Yorkshire Champion. He now moves on to the quarter finals on Sunday 2nd November when the Yorkshire winners shall be boxing the winners of the midlands.

Well done Faisil on your achievement, and commiserations to Declan Wordsworth on his narrow defeat - the result of two controversial warnings.

Now we have come to the end of the boxing season I would like to say well done to all the lads who boxed for Sheffield Lane Top ABC in 2007-2008. It was not the busiest season when it came to getting out to shows, but we are not the only gym to have had a quiet season; many others did too. Everyone who boxed did themselves and the gym proud as always. We got three new boxers who joined our gym from another, so I would like to say welcome to the Nasser brothers. They are all nice lads and have settled in well. We have also had a couple of lads take the boxing medical who will be ready to box sometime next season. As the head coach I would like to thank the other three coaches who give up their free time and say that without their help the gym would fold. So a big thank you and well done in the progress that each one has made as a coach goes out to Dean Furniss, Shaun Hill and Joe Martin. I look forward to the progress each boxer and the gym shall make next season.

Declan Wordsworth - a report from Keith Palmer

Well done and unlucky to Declan Wordsworth in the Junior A.B.A Championships on Saturday 3rdMay. Declan entered the Class 4 under 60kg group of which there was four more entries. As a result of the draw if Declan won his bout he would have had to box again later on that day.He was drawn out to Box a tough strong lad from Sheffield Boxing Centre called Zane Clark. Five seconds into round 2 Declan injured his right hand and although it was clear to see what pain and discomfort it caused him he continued to box for the remainder of the fight. After the fight had ended Declans arm was raised as the winner but unfortunately after being examined by the doctor it was clear to all concerned that he would not be able to box again that day which meant that he had to be with drawn from the Championships.
Unlucky but well done on your victory Declan. The Championships will come again next season.

Pharys Nasser - a report from Keith Palmer

Well done to Pharys Nasser on his performance against Sharkys a.b.c boxer Billy Pickles. Before the bout I told Pharys what improvements and progress I wanted to see in his performance. I am pleased to say he went out and showed me the progress I was looking for.Pharys showed he can box and fight when he needs to and was successful in getting the bonus by having his hand raised at the end.

Help-A-Hallam Child Boost for SLTABC

Absolutely brilliant news this week from the Help-A-Hallam Child Fund, which has made a generous grant to the club of £1,200 which puts us one show ahead instead of one show behind all the time, financially speaking. This is a massive boost, allowing us to operate without constantly fearing closure for financial reasons.

On behalf of Sheffield Lane Top ABC's boxers, coaches and other volunteers I would like to say a huge thank you to them, and invite them to send a couple of representatives as guests of honour to our next show.

Well done to Declan Wordsworth who boxed Luke Rhodes from Malt House ABC on the 30th January on a malt house abc show. Declan boxed well against a strong unbeaten opponent to pick up a unanimous points win.

Well done to Mohsin Rafique on his winning performance when he boxed S.Hogetts from Halesowen ABC on Friday 1st February in Birmingham.This was Mohsin's first southpaw opponent but he handled the situation well and got better as the fight went on to pick up the win.

Well done to Craig Gale who had his first bout last night (Friday 1st February) on the Warley A.B.C show in Birmingham.
Craig boxed T.Denny from Old Hill A.B.C, and in what turned out to be a hard first bout Craig showed his heart and desire to keep up the work and pace to earn the win. You are one of our gym's success story's Craig, and a success to yourself in how far you have come since first joining the gym. It has not been an easy road for you at times - you found it really hard going, but you stuck at it, lost a lot of weight and found a new sense of focus, drive and determination. Well done Craig, you should be proud, I know I'm proud of you.

A message from Keith Palmer:

Well done to Ryan Parkes on his performance in the under 57kg Yorkshire CYP Championships final. Ryan showed the improvement he has made during the close season when he boxed Likha Chahal from Handsworth ABC.This was Ryan's 9th bout, facing Chahal in his 19th. From the start of the first round to the end of the third I felt Ryan was the much busier and stronger landing with plenty of good shots to both body and head.To my shock and disbelief at the end of the bout Ryan's hand was not raised. At least Ryan can take comfort in the number of people who came up to him after the bout to state that in their opinion he had won clearly and that they could not believe the result. The majority of those people did not know Ryan.

To me Ryan you are the uncrowned champ. Well done and keep standing tall. Once again you are a credit and a joy to have in the gym. You did yourself and me proud.
